Let me be real for a moment. I did not want to watch this video.
Not because Marilyn Manson scares me (I love horror movies), not because I don’t like his music…it’s because of that uncertain phase in a celebrity’s life. Like when Sean Young cornered Tim Burton to play Catwoman or when Tom Cruise jumped on Oprah’s couch or when Britney was flashing her vagina to the paparazzi. I’m sure you’re probably thinking, “what about when she shaved her head?” I thought that episode was totally warranted and justified. Brit Brit was taking her power back 🙂
It’s when celebrities reach that point where they have to figure out how to continue growing while simultaneously dealing with expectations. I blame Hollywood. So when Marilyn Manson and Johnny Depp started hanging out....I thought, “T minus 3...2...1....” Casting Courtney Love made me wonder if Manson was assembling some sort of supergroup of outcasts and maybe that’s not a bad idea. But you never know how these things will can out.
With all that in mind, “Tattooed In Reverse” was rather meek. Sure you had some baby dolls and a strange cult but Marilyn looks like he’s slimmed down, Courtney didn’t hog the camera (although I couldn’t tell in some of the close ups if it was Marilyn or Courtney since he wears that cloudy eye contact) and who was the model wo played the sacrificial lamb? She is gorgeous...love that bathing suit.
So give it up for “shock pop fun”! Or maybe it is beyond the scope of disturbing and I can no longer gauge thanks to the media’s constant influx of horrifying news. Wheeeeee!
